New York, NY - Five Alive! School of Art+Design Exhibit at Monya Rowe Gallery presents the work of five Purchase College SUNY, School of Art+Design Master of Fine Arts degree candidates. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 20th from 6pm to 8pm and the show will be on view May 20th through June 5th. Embracing methods of drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, performance and video, the works of these five emerging artists reflect the innovative and interdisciplinary spirit of the Purchase College SUNY MFA in Visual Arts program (directed by Kate Gilmore & Omar Lopez-Chahoud). Curated by Omar Lopez-Chahoud, the exhibition showcases work by Neil Dvorak, Scott Daniel Ellison, Merav Ezer, Tom Sarver, and Rachel Wiecking.

Neil Dvorak creates objects that explore the relationship between artifact and functionality. In her videos, performances and installations, Merav Ezer explores the psychological and physical implications of self-created environments. Scott Daniel Ellison's paintings and photographs explore themes of horror and paganism. Tom Sarver combines humor, social commentary and low-tech gadgetry to explore relationships between the art world and the everyday. Rachel Wiecking's work uses techniques of casting, printmaking and sculpture to force collisions between physiological and utilitarian systems.
