Jim Bergesen studied painting, drawing and printmaking at the Art Students League of New York and currently works in oil, watercolor, digital media and printmaking. His work has been shown in both group and solo exhibitions in the New York City area and nationally.
Bergesen holds an MFA in Painting and Interdisciplinary Studio Art, as well as an MA in 20th Century Art History, Theory and Criticism from SUNY Purchase. He also holds an undergraduate degree in French Language and Literature as well as Economics from Western Michigan University.
In addition to teaching Studio Arts at Manhattanville College and Norwalk Community College he has taught Contemporary Art History at SUNY Purchase. Founder and director of an alternative art space in lower Manhattan, Bergeson works with local artists, curating and organizing exhibits. He is also the Winsor & Newton Educational Advisor for the tri-state area.
