Artist talks by Vivian Beer & David Brooks this February at the School of Art+Design


February 9 – Vivian Beer

Born in Bar Harbor, Maine in 1977, Vivian Beer holds a BFA from the Maine College of Art (2004) and recently completed a three-year residency at the Penland School of Craft.  She lives and works in Manchester, NH, and teaches and exhibits nationally and internationally.  Selected exhibition venues include The Mint Museum, Fuller Craft Museum, SOFA Chicago, Palm Beach 3, International Contemporary Furniture Fair, and Pritam and Eames Gallery.  Represented by Wexler Gallery (Pennsylvania) and The Courthouse Gallery (Maine).  Selected work experience includes the Penland Residency, Designer/Project/Manager/Blacksmith for Fine Architectural Metalsmiths, and public art projects at Winslow Park in Portland, ME. More


February 23 – David Brooks
David Brooks was born 1975 in Brazil, Indiana, and currently lives and works in New York City. He was featured in the PS1 MOMA Greater New York 2010 show, and was a recipient of the prestigious Marie Walshe Sharpe studio program. His work explores ecological crisis through physical collisions of natural and manufactured materials. Most recently, he has been planting living trees in cement, allowing this literally living sculpture to die over the course of the exhibition.
